PM’s Cabinet Promoting Economic Pentagon Strategy on Social Media

PHNOM PENH: The Pentagon Strategy is the economic roadmap adopted by Prime Minister Hun Manet and succeeds the government’s Triangle and Rectangle Strategy of previous years. The strategy was formed earlier this year by his father’s Cabinet and the Asian Development Bank and is meant to “further promote national pride (…) through building a strong, proactive, and prosperous nation (…) to become a high-income country by 2050.”

Minister Delegate Attached to the Prime Minister, Jean-François Tain, promoted the highly publicized Pentagon Strategy on his Facebook page this week and outlined some of its main points without giving much detail into how the strategy’s aims will be accomplished. The strategy has lofty goals in reducing the poverty rate to below 10%, narrowing down socio-economic inequality, maintaining economic growth rate, and concurrently enhancing the social protection system by especially taking care of the most impoverished.

Tain says that the strategy demonstrates the more socially oriented policy and compassion of Prime Minister Hun Manet’s administration for society’s most vulnerable. He says the government will “strive by all means and, in all capacities, to promote economic growth, create more jobs, promote social equity, strengthen quality of education and health care sector particularly in the remote areas.”

In March, Jean-François Tain resigned as managing director of Radio France International (RFI) in Khmer after 30 years with the media outlet and is now working under Cambodia’s new prime minister.
